Upcoming Event – The Business of Sport: Building the Future of Women’s Sport in Edmonton
On December 11, a powerful coalition of business, sport, and community leaders will gather at West Edmonton Mall to launch a pivotal conversation regarding the future of professional women’s sport in Edmonton.
Hosted by ZerOne in partnership with the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and Sport Edmonton, the event is titled “The Business of Sport: Building the Future of Women’s Sport in Edmonton.” It aims to galvanize the investment and infrastructure needed to secure a professional women’s team for the city by 2026.
Edmonton is already recognized globally as a premier sports city. It is ranked #1 in Canada and #22 worldwide for hosting sporting events. With women’s sport representing one of the fastest-growing markets globally, this event brings together decision-makers to capitalize on that momentum. The evening will explore the economic opportunities, long-term infrastructure needs, and the legacy required to ensure female athletes have a future in the city.
The event will feature a keynote from Marin Hickox of Hockey Canada and a panel of influential leaders, including Cal Nichols, to discuss the business case for women’s sport.
“We believe in the power of sport to build community and create opportunity,” says Vanessa Hettinger, CEO of ZerOne Hockeyology. “This is about shaping a city where young athletes can imagine—and achieve—their future. At ZerOne, our mission is to ignite potential and lead meaningful change. By bringing this coalition together, we are committed to mobilizing the support and resources required to elevate women’s sport.”
The event is presented by ZerOne, Sport Edmonton, Explore Edmonton, The Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, and Hockey Canada.
