Tony Yong,
CEO, Athleticare
Anthony Yong is a Manual Physical Therapist and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy. As an adjunct to manual therapy techniques and treatments, Anthony is certified in Biomedical Dry Needling and Advanced Biomedical Dry Needling techniques. He has a special interest in the rehabilitation of spinal (neck and back) injuries, providing manual therapy and active exercise programs to assist his patients’ optimal recovery. Throughout his career he has worked closely with elite and professional athletic organizations, including the Edmonton Elks (formerly Eskimos), the Edmonton Rush, and the Spruce Grove/St. Albert Saints Jr. A Hockey Club. He also speaks Cantonese for those who may require a Cantonese-speaking Physical Therapist. When he’s not at the clinic, Anthony keeps quite active and you can find him out and about, exploring Edmonton’s great food scene.

Dr. Felix Soibelman,
Co-Medical Lead
Dr. Felix Soibelman is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alberta and is the medical site lead in Emergency Medicine and the Hyperbaric Oxygen Unit at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton Alberta. He is a University of Alberta Alumnus and completed both his B.Sc in pharmacology and MD degrees there. He completed his residency at Queens University and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Emergency Medicine. He has a special interest in sports and performance medicine. He enjoys spending as much time as he can with his family on the golf course, nordic skiing, running and cycling through Edmonton’s river valley.

Kayla English,
Registered Massage Therapist
Kayla is a 3000-hour Advanced Registered Massage Therapist with over five years of experience in therapeutic bodywork. Her practice is rooted in evidence-based techniques and enhanced by specialized training in Reiki, Reflexology, cupping therapy, and hot stone massage. She takes a personalized, client-focused approach to treatment, aiming to support each individual’s unique path to healing, recovery, and overall well-being. Whether working with chronic pain, stress relief, or injury rehabilitation, Kayla strives to create a safe and effective space for meaningful therapeutic results. She believes in creating a safe, and inclusive, space for every client, (with just the right dash of humor) to her sessions.
When she’s not in the treatment room, Kayla enjoys watching hockey, jiu-jitsu, and mixed martial arts—sports that remind her of the power of movement, discipline, and recovery.

Jesse Karpman, MScPT, Sports Physio Cert, MScRS,
Physical Therapist
Jesse holds both a Masters of Rehabilitation Sciences and a Masters of Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. He uses a personalized approach, combining manual therapy and therapeutic exercise to help clients achieve their goals. He has completed courses in soft tissue release, performance therapy, dry needling and is Shift Concussion Certified. He has earned his Sport Physiotherapy Certificate from Sport Physiotherapy Canada, which included both on-field hours and clinical examinations. Currently the head therapist for St. Albert Rugby, Jesse has extensive game/event coverage experience with organizations such as the UFC, U of A Track and Field, World Rugby 7s, and CSSHL Hockey.
In his spare time Jesse is passionate about staying active and is always tuned in to the world of sports. When he’s not working, you’ll find him spending time with his family or you might find him exploring the local craft beer scene.

Claire Kjeld,
Registered Dietitian
Claire has worked as a Registered Dietitian in both the United States and Canada since 2006. She earned her Bachelor of Sciences in Dietetics while on a golf scholarship at Iowa State University and her Masters and Internship in Dietetics at Oregon Health and Sciences University.
Claire has trained and competed in artistic swimming, golf, running and triathlons. Forever loving sport, Claire has always sought to optimize sport performance for others and herself and is first to recognize the game-changing effects of being properly fueled. It is her passion to help others reach their full athletic potential with the often-missed opportunity of sports nutrition.
Claire works with all ages, identities, and abilities and has taught athletes in a variety of sports including hockey, soccer, golf, baseball, artistic swimming, speed swimming, gymnastics, triathlons, long distance biking, and running.
In Claire’s spare time, she enjoys working towards faster swim, bike, and run times, and lower golf scores 😊. She also loves cooking, traveling, and spending quality time with her family.

Emily Mardell,
Registered Dietitian
Emily Mardell is a uniquely skilled Dietitian specializing in both sports and family nutrition. With a solid foundation in biochemistry from Memorial University and dietetic internship, Emily completed advanced training in pediatrics and performance. Over the past 15 years, Emily has become a respected expert, working with athletes at all levels including soccer, hockey and football. As a consulting Dietitian, Emily partners with organizations like the Junior Prospects Hockey League and Canadian Premier League providing performance nutrition services for coaches, individuals and teams.
Her personal mantra, “Athletes fuel and train, they don’t diet and exercise” is the foundation of Emily’s nutrition practice. Guided by evidence, rooted in personalized programming and enriched by solution-focused counselling, her goal is to empower positive eating habits and food relationships.
Emily’s dedication extends beyond her clients to community building and food security initiatives, such as the “Face-Off Against Community Hunger” campaign. Outside of her professional life, Emily is a proud Alberta foodie and an avid powerlifter. She enjoys reading, cooking, and exploring nature with her children…like every busy parent, just trying to keep up!

Kristin Milligan,
Manual Physical Therapist
Kristin Milligan is a manual Physical Therapist who completed her Bachelor of Science degree and her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy degree (2007) from the University of Alberta. She is certified in Biomedical Dry Needling techniques, and has completed her Level 3 upper and lower extremities from the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Kristin has post graduate training in spinal manipulation, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, Mulligan Technique and advanced level Active Shoulder Orthopaedics. With years of experience, she creates active and individualized rehabilitation programs for her patients. Kristin has a special area of interest in dance. She danced and taught dance for more than 20 years, competing and performing around the world. Her passion for treating the artistic athlete is what has been the driving force behind her career choice. In her spare time Kristin loves to practice yoga, walk her dogs and has recently taken up golf.

Fahreen Rayani
Mental Performance Coach
Fahreen Rayani is a highly accomplished Mental Performance Coach and leader with over 15 years of experience coaching, managing, and supervising diverse teams across interdisciplinary health care, sport, and high-performance environments. She holds a Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Psychology and a Master’s degree in sport performance psychology & mental performance coaching.
Fahreen has supported athletes and teams at the highest levels of competition, contributing to six national championships in women’s varsity hockey, top-five finishes at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts with elite female curlers, and Olympic Trials performances with both male and female competitive swimmers.
Known for her athlete-centered and evidence-informed approach, Fahreen specializes in mental toughness training, performance-focused injury prevention, and the development of customized mental skills programs that enhance focus, confidence, motivation, and resilience under pressure. Her work empowers athletes, coaches, and teams to perform consistently in demanding environments while navigating the mental challenges of high performance.
Beyond sport, Fahreen is deeply committed to promoting mental well-being, self-awareness, and sustainable success in performance-driven settings. She works with individuals and organizations across industries to cultivate growth mindsets, clarity, and long-term excellence—helping people unlock their potential and perform at their best when it matters most.

Sean Ringrose, MScPT, BPE,
Physical Therapist
Sean is a dedicated physiotherapist with a deep-rooted passion for helping people stay active and healthy. With a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education specializing in sport performance and a Master’s in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta. Sean combines academic expertise with hands-on experience to deliver comprehensive care for patients of all ages and activity levels.
Growing up in Edmonton, Sean played minor and junior hockey before joining the University of Alberta Golden Bears, competing at the university level and playing professionally overseas. After his hockey career, he spent several years coaching, deepening his understanding of performance, injury prevention, and recovery.
Sean’s caring and attentive personality allows him to effectively support clients across all backgrounds – not just athletes – as they work toward their personal wellness goals. His experience enables him to tailor treatment plans for each individual, fostering resilience and recovery to help everyone live life to the fullest.
In his spare time, Sean likes to golf, spend time with his family and do just about anything sports related.

Bianca Romano
Mental Health Therapist
I am a mental health therapist specializing in mental performance coaching and general mental health counselling. My work is focused on supporting individuals and athletes who want to improve their mental health and strengthen competitive performance. I work with athletes across levels who are facing the psychological demands of sport, including performance anxiety, confidence fluctuations, fear of failure, perfectionism, burnout, injury recovery, identity concerns, motivation challenges, and difficulty managing pressure of expectations. My practice is also geared to address mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, OCD, ADHD, grief and loss, and emotional regulation.
My approach is person-centered and integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment Theory, mindfulness-based interventions, goal-setting and imagery, self-talk and attentional control strategies. Across all work, I emphasize purpose, values, and meaning as essential foundations for resilience, motivation, and sustainable personal growth.
Ultimately, I believe my clients are the master of their life, therefore, I work collaboratively with them to identify mental barriers and concerns, build effective mental skills, and apply strategies that enhance both athletic performance and general well-being.

Tennessa Wild,
Physical Therapist
Tennessa holds a Masters degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta, where she honed her skills and knowledge in the latest therapeutic techniques. Her academic journey has equipped her with a solid foundation in anatomy, biomechanics, and evidence-based practice.
Tennessa’s approach to physiotherapy is rooted in a holistic perspective, focusing not only on treating symptoms, but addressing the underlying causes to promote long-term health. She believes in personalized care, tailoring treatment plans to suit each individual’s needs and goals.
Tennessa also holds a degree in Journalism from the University of Regina. This unique experience has given Tennessa the investigative skills and curiosity she carries into her practice. A clear diagnosis is critical to developing a successful treatment plan. Her hands-on experience has allowed her to work with diverse patient populations, from orthopedic to neurological conditions, refining her skills and adapting to various healthcare settings. Tennessa is also a certified personal trainer servicing fitness industry clients for over 15 years.

She strives to create a supportive and collaborative environment where patients feel heard and actively participate in their healing journey. Dr. Ravi Bhargava,
Radiologist
Dr Ravi Bhargava is a pediatric radiologist. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Ottawa. He did postgraduate training at the University of Western Ontario, University of Ottawa, and the University of Tennessee. He holds dual FRCPC’s in Diagnostic Radiology and Pediatric Radiology. He is American board certified in Diagnostic Radiology. He started interpreting brain and spine MRI at the University Hospital in 1995. He is the former chief of radiology at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Associate Chair of Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Alberta. He looks forward to providing comprehensive imaging services. Dr Bhargava enjoys mixing mocktails and spending time outdoors walking his dog and playing golf.

Dr. Alia Karmali,
Family Medicine
Dr. Alia Karmali is a dual-trained family and sports medicine physician originally from Edmonton, Alberta, with a diverse international background in high-performance sport and musculoskeletal care.
She completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at McGill University in 2006 before earning her Doctor of Medicine (MBBS/MD) from the University of Sydney in 2011. She went on to complete a Master of Surgery at the University of Sydney (2014) and, most recently, a Graduate Diploma in Sports Medicine from the University of Melbourne. Dr. Karmali trained in family medicine in Australia, obtaining Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and was awarded Certification in the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP) in 2024 .
With more than a decade of experience across orthopaedic, emergency, and sports medicine, Dr. Karmali has served as Team Doctor for semi-professional, professional, and national-level teams in rugby, Australian Football League (AFLW), and American football (flag and tackle). Her international portfolio includes work with the GWS Giants (AFLW), NRL Sydney Roosters and St. George Illawarra Dragons (NRLW), and Gridiron Australia’s national program.
At her clinic, Dr. Karmali provides comprehensive sports and musculoskeletal care, with an emphasis on evidence-based injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimization for athletes of all levels. Her approach integrates her academic background in surgery and kinesiology with her practical experience on the field.
Outside of medicine, Alia remains a dedicated athlete herself — currently playing quarterback for the San Diego Rebellion in the professional Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC). She grew up playing ice hockey, rugby, and basketball, experiences that continue to shape her patient-centered, athlete-focused philosophy of care.

Dr. Michael Lai,
Emergency Medicine Physician
Dr. Michael Lai is a family physician who was born in Calgary. He received his medical degree and completed his family medicine residency at the University of Alberta, and did a fellowship in emergency medicine at the University of Manitoba. Currently, he is also working as an emergency physician at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital, and does teaching through the UofA for medical students and residents. In his free time, he plays ice hockey, volleyball and enjoys working on his golf swing.
